Time Medical’s High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) technology is a unique combination of high temperature superconductivity and magnetic resonance technology, including HTS radio frequency technology, HTS magnet technology and HTS gradient technology.

The RF coil is the core component of the MRI system. Using HTS materials to exhibit a characteristic of nearly zero resistance at a specific temperature (minus 196 degrees Celsius), greatly reduces noise generated from the RF coil and improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the image. Compared with traditional copper RF coils, HTS coils show a signal-to-noise ratio improvement of 200% to 300%; in non-proton imaging such as Na imaging, HTS coils can achieve a 300-500% signal-to-noise ratio improvement. HTS coils can be easily adjusted to different frequencies for nuclear imaging of hydrogen, sodium, phosphorus, etc.

HTS magnet technology can greatly increase the working temperature of superconducting magnets so that the magnets do not relay on the scarce resource of liquid helium, improve the temperature stability of the magnets, and reduce the power consumption of low-temperature cooling systems. In addition, the current density of HTS tape material is more than 10 times higher than that of a conventional low temperature superconductor (NbTi) . Therefore the HTS can generate much higher magnet field strength under the same current or the same field strength with much lower current (save power consumption). HTS will be the material of choice for the next generation ultrahigh field magnet beyond 10T. HTS gradient technology will increase the gradient strength and ramp speed of the gradient coil, so that more advanced sequences can be developed.

HTS MRI could become as common as DR with over 1 million units in use (currently at 120,000), especially in low income countries. The global MRI market, valued at $35 billion, could grow by 300-500% in the next decade due to HTS MRI.

Time Medical R&D team developed the HTS MRI RF coils at Columbia University and Harvard Medical School. Time Medical leads in creating innovative HTS MRI technologies and products. The Company owns the IP of HTS MRI tech with an integration of HTS RF, HTS Magnet, and HTS Gradient as a new MRI system called SupMR.
